Avoid situations where you want to smoke
Avoid places and things that make you want to smoke, such as coffee and alcohol. If it is difficult, talk to the people around you and decide what to do, such as not drinking enough to lose your reason.
Put other things in your mouth
If you feel lonely, eat something that you can keep in your mouth for a long time, such as gum or candy, or something that you can drink, such as carbonated water or strong tea. Gargling and brushing your teeth are also effective.
Communicate with others
If you want to smoke, talk to your colleagues, friends and family to distract yourself. If you live alone, you may want to rely on services such as a non-smoking telephone counseling room.
